    281 Killed in Road Accidents During Eid Journeys

    The Road Safety Foundation has reported that during the 13-day period from May 21 to June 2, coinciding with this year’s Eid-ul-Adha, 292 road accidents occurred across the country, resulting in 281 deaths and 837 injuries.

    This information was disclosed in a statement released by the organization on Thursday (June 4).

    The statement further mentioned that among the deceased, 34 were women and 48 were children. Motorcycle accidents were the most fatal during this period.

    According to the Road Safety Foundation, 124 people died in 141 motorcycle accidents, accounting for 44.12 percent of the total fatalities. Additionally, 37 pedestrians and 33 drivers and their assistants were among those killed.

    Furthermore, 8 people died and 15 were injured in 13 waterway accidents. On railways, 17 people were killed and 9 injured in 22 accidents.

    Regarding vehicle-specific fatalities, 124 were motorcycle riders and passengers, 21 were bus passengers, 32 were occupants of trucks and cargo vehicles, 11 were in private cars and ambulances, 48 were three-wheeler passengers, and 8 were in local vehicles.

    Division-wise, Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of accidents and fatalities, with 101 deaths in 95 accidents. In contrast, Sylhet Division had the lowest, with 7 deaths in 9 accidents.

    As a single district, Faridpur reported the highest number of fatalities, with 28 deaths in 19 accidents, the statement added.
