A news report titled ‘Icelandic Prime Minister Impressed by the Sound of Adhan in Turkey’ has been published on social media and several online news portals in Bangladesh. The report claims that during her visit to Turkey, Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir praised the hospitality of Muslims and the sound of the Adhan, stating:

“I am impressed by the tolerance of Muslims in Turkey. They welcomed me very cordially. I really liked the sound of the Adhan; it has an extraordinary melody. I will visit Turkey again very soon.”

Various online media outlets in the country have published news reports quoting the same statement.

Media Outlets Where the News Was Published

BD24Live’s verification reveals that several Bengali media outlets, including Dainik Amar Desh, The Daily Campus, Insaf 24, and Dinajpur TV, published the news in similar language. In most cases, the headline was “Icelandic Prime Minister Impressed by the Sound of Adhan in Turkey”.

    How Was It Verified?

The BD24Live fact-check team investigated the original source of the claim.

First, Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir’s recent visit to Turkey, her participation in the NATO summit, official statements, and reports from international media outlets were reviewed.

Verification confirmed that she visited Turkey to participate in the NATO summit held in Ankara on July 7–8, 2026. Photos and information regarding this visit were also published in international media.

However, the investigation found no independent record of the quoted statement on the Icelandic government’s website, the Prime Minister’s Office, official NATO documents, or reliable international news outlets such as Reuters, AP, AFP, or BBC.

    So, Where is the Confusion?

Most of the news reports published in Bangladesh merely reiterated the same quote. However, none of these reports cited a primary source for the statement, such as a video, a full interview, a press briefing, an official transcript, or a reliable link to a direct quote.

According to the fundamental principles of fact-checking, a claim is not automatically proven true just because multiple media outlets publish it. If all outlets draw information from the same unspecified source, they cannot be considered independent verification.

    BD24Live’s Assessment

    • The Icelandic Prime Minister visited Turkey — True.
    • She participated in the NATO summit — True.
    • However, no primary and reliable source for the quotes “I really liked the sound of the Adhan” and “I am impressed by the tolerance of Muslims” could be found.

    Verdict

    Unverified

Based on currently available evidence, the quote attributed to Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir could not be independently verified. Although multiple Bengali news outlets published the same claim, no reliable primary source or official confirmation of the quote was found. Therefore, this claim cannot be declared entirely true or entirely false at this moment. According to journalistic standards, it is most appropriate to label it as “Unverified”.
